A Win for the Wild: Green Safaris’ Sustainability Ethos Recognised at WTM Africa 2025

Green Safaris | May 28, 2025

Green Safaris is proud to announce that we were awarded Gold in the Climate Change category at the prestigious WTM Africa Responsible Tourism Awards 2025, held in Cape Town on 11 April. This honour recognises tourism businesses that are actively addressing climate change through innovation, leadership, and long-term sustainability efforts.

Representing us at the ceremony was our Business Development Manager, Ros Hind, who accepted the accolade on behalf of the entire Green Safaris team. The award celebrates the pioneering work being done across all of our properties — from solar-powered safaris and carbon-negative operations, to the elimination of single-use plastics and reforestation through bamboo planting.

“Every decision we make starts with sustainability,” says Ros. “This award is for our teams on the ground in Zambia and Malawi who bring this vision to life every single day.”

Travel That Treads Lightly

From the shores of Lake Malawi to the wild banks of the Zambezi, Green Safaris is committed to offering guests something more meaningful than a bucket-list trip. Our silent safaris, powered by solar e-Cruisers and e-Boats, allow guests to move through nature with intention, preserving the quiet magic of the bush while reducing our footprint.

We are proud to be one of the few hospitality groups in Africa that operates destinations, combining clean energy, reforestation efforts, and local partnerships to ensure that our presence gives back more than it takes.

Purpose Beyond Luxury

At Green Safaris, we believe that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand — and that conservation is most effective when it includes people. Across all of our properties — from Tongabezi and Sindabezi in Livingstone to Ila and Chisa Busanga in Kafue, Sausage Tree and Potato Bush Camp in Lower Zambezi, and Kaya Mawa on Likoma Island — we invest in the communities that call these extraordinary places home.

Whether it’s building schools, supporting wildlife scouts, or planting bamboo to restore degraded land, our impact grows far beyond the guest experience. And this award recognises the power of that long-term commitment.

Celebrating Together

The award itself — a striking cork-and-wire sculpture created by local youth in collaboration with Uthando SA and Painted Wolf Wines — is a symbol of the very ethos Green Safaris stands for: regenerative, locally rooted, and made to last.

We are humbled to be included among this year’s winners, and extend our congratulations to all the changemakers recognised, including fellow eco-conscious leaders like Wilderness!Khwa ttu, and Kwanini Foundation. You can explore the full list via Bizcommunity.

Thank You for Travelling Differently

This award belongs to every guest who chooses a safari that gives back. Your journey supports conservation, community, and carbon-conscious innovation. We’re grateful to have you with us on this path — and we can’t wait to show you what’s next.
