swimming at the edge

Livingstone Island is home to three extraordinary natural pools that offer guests the chance to experience Victoria Falls from a perspective like no other. Perched at the very lip of the waterfall, these pools are accessible only when the Zambezi’s water levels drop to safe limits — and even then, only to confident swimmers under the guidance of trained professionals.

Devils Pool

devil's pool

This world-famous swimming experience has become a bucket-list adventure for thrill-seekers — and for good reason. Open typically from mid-August to late December, Devil’s Pool forms naturally on the very edge of Victoria Falls when the Zambezi's water levels drop just enough to make it safe.

Unlike any man-made infinity pool, this natural rock basin offers a surprisingly calm spot where multiple guests can sit or lie back while gazing over a sheer 108-metre drop into the gorge below. Held safely in place by a rock lip and guided closely by experienced staff, it’s a surreal mix of serenity and adrenaline — with the thundering roar of the Falls all around you.

For those brave enough to lean over the edge, it’s one of the most exhilarating and photogenic moments imaginable.

angel's pool

Don’t let the name fool you — this is no serene soak. Angel’s Pool is a dramatic ledge experience located at the very edge of Victoria Falls, where the Zambezi rushes past your feet and disappears into the gorge below. Unlike the more contained Devil’s Pool, Angel’s Pool isn’t a “pool” in the traditional sense — it’s an adrenaline-pumping perch on the precipice of the Falls, often offering the closest and most exposed encounter with the drop. Available when water levels are still too high for Devil’s Pool, this experience is raw, wild, and unforgettable — and absolutely not for the faint-hearted.

Angels Pool
Rock Pool

A lesser-known gem, Rock Pool becomes available under specific water conditions. Like Angel’s Pool, it offers a safe but exhilarating encounter with the Zambezi’s force and beauty, surrounded by sculpted basalt formations and sweeping views of the gorge.
