This is the perfect itinerary for the first time visitor to Africa. Start your trip in vibrant Cape Town, Africa’s favourite city. Experience as many of the Cape’s attractions and restaurants at your own pace before moving on to the game-rich Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve located in the Greater Kruger National park area, South Africa’s prime safari destination.
End the trip with Africa’s adrenalin & activity capital, The Victoria Falls. The Victoria Falls presents a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring grandeur on the Zambezi River and can be viewed from both Zimbabwean and the Zambian side of the river. Enjoy an incredible few days of activities and amazing views of one of the natural wonders of the world.
All year round is good for Victoria Falls and the Greater Kruger National Park areas although for Cape Town, the main rainy season falls over the Winter months which is opposite to the destinations in the rest of the itinerary. June and July are considered the wettest months in Cape Town. Victoria Falls can be very humid in October and the main rainy season for both Victoria Falls and Greater Kruger Park falls between November and February. This period however, which is known as the “Green Season”, is also a wonderful time to visit and is the main birding season where migratory species can also be seen. In the Victoria Falls area, the ‘Low Water’ period runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. The best views of the falls at this time will be Devil’s Cataract which is permanent and on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls.
Only the safari and Victoria falls are considered malaria areas and we advise the use of anti-malarial prophylactics year-round. Consult your travel doctor for advice at least three weeks before departure to Africa.
Cape Town is far from being “just another city” destination. One of the many reasons that travelers choose to visit Cape Town is its abundance of scenic beauty and natural attractions. The city itself is situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain, one of the world’s Seven Wonders of Nature, however, attractions such as the scenic Cape Winelands, Cape Town’s numerous white sandy beaches, the Cape Peninsula and activities such as whale watching and shark diving, are all found within a 2 hour radius of Cape Town. In addition, Cape Town is also considered South Africa’s culinary capital and is a veritable foodie paradise.
The Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve is Southern Africa’s premier private safari destination and synonymous with frequent sightings of the elusive leopard. The reserve is a “Big 5” reserve however and so all the usual animals such as elephant and rhino will be seen too but we mention leopards as these magnificent creatures are usually shy and rarely seem.
