Our goal is to make it economically viable for pristine wild spaces, and the captivating wildlife within them, to remain protected. This is made possible by our guests, but also by our communities. True conservation is only possible if you focus on empowering people as much as you do on directly protecting wildlife.

Our Story

Our Green Safaris Conservation Foundation has committed to founding and supporting a multitude of projects and focuses, with an equal emphasis on Education, Sustainability, Conservation, and sustainable Community Development.

We then invite all of our guests to get their hands in the dirt beside us, to share in our promise and to nurture positive change in Africa from the ground up.

Conserve

We are guardians and advocates, interrogating and enhancing every step of our operations and founding ambitious projects on a mission for sustainability.

We power 80% of our properties as well as our fume-free Silent Safari fleet with on-site solar farms.

Our grey-water systems, ban on single-use plastics, and emphasis on sustainable resourcing gives us a minimal carbon footprint.

We offset any remaining carbon with our own Green Safaris reforestation initiatives.

Our Green Safaris Conservation Foundation maximises our positive footprint by founding and investing in education, anti-pollution, and human-wildlife initiatives.

Our low-footprint cuisine is just the final part of our immense initiative that shares sustainable farming techniques across Zambia.

We are proud to be one of the first safari operators to achieve operational carbon neutrality!
Pioneer

We are creators and trailblazers, paving a bright new road between sustainability and luxury.

Pioneers of the Silent Safari: we were the first (and are still the only) safari operator to offer solar-powered safaris in Zambia.

Our solar-powered game drives, river cruises, and mountain bikes let guests get closer to nature; with minimal pollution and noise, they do not disturb the wildlife.

Our fresh farm-to-fork menus are superior for both palate and planet. Most of our fresh produce comes from on-site gardens or our community farms nearby.

We are biomimics: our Chisa Nest rooms are directly inspired by weaver bird nests.

Our sustainable architecture challenges guest expectations about luxury, such as our framed ‘holes in the wall’ revealing sandbag construction techniques that minimise carbon and maximise comfort.

We are teachers and nurturers, fostering local talent and knowledge to make it economically viable for precious wild spaces and wildlife in Africa to remain protected.

Our lodges foster Zambian and Malawian talent: we hire local and train up in house.

Over 85% of our team is from the communities surrounding our properties.

Over 60% percent of our management team are women.

Our Green Safaris Conservation Foundation empowers our communities with initiatives such as the Mukuni Community Farm, the Tongabezi Chicken Coop, and the Young Mother’s Programme.

We empower local artists and artisans and train our team members to create the designs we need, such as the handmade wooden dhows at Tongabezi.

We share our strength and resources with other vital conservation projects, such as Panthera, Conservation South Luangwa, and the Zambian Carnivore Project.

By committing to empowering our staff and communities, we not only enable a brighter future for our people but also for our wildlife and ecosystems: providing work, development, and education teaches communities the benefit of the wild spaces on their doorstep and motivates them to value and protect these spaces in turn.
